Anatomy- the bane of any medical student’s existence. More than half of the students who embark on the educational journey that will require anatomy classes end up either failing out of their program, or repeating at least one of their anatomy and physiology courses.

That is no mistake! Anatomy is hard, and unless you are prepared to memorize a mountain of information in a deep enough manner to recall it at any given moment, you won’t get a passing grade. 

If you want to do well in an anatomy class, there are a lot of things you can do to make you more successful.

Charts and Diagrams

If you get yourself a good anatomy chart and some high quality anatomy diagrams, you will have a huge tool to help you put an image with all the labels you will have to memorize.

Otherr anatomy charts and diagrams can be copied out of books or printed off the internet. Find some that work for you, and use them all the time!

Flash Cards: 

We suggest having at least two sets of this important anatomy study resource. One should be purchased from a professional company. 

Havee Ramen instead of pizza one night if you have to in order to afford a good set of anatomy flash cards. The other set we suggest you get is a home made one. 

Makingg your own set of anatomy flash cards will help you have some memory cues as you prepare them, and will give you the chance to add to them whatever you need to work well with your personal learning style.

Anatomy Models: 

Muscle, skeletal, nervous, etc. All those systems are a big jumble of parts and terms. Having a tangible model can really help you put it all together in a way you can easily recognize and recall. 

If this is something your starving student budget can’t afford, then maybe your could consider going in on it with another class mate in need of some good anatomy study resources.

Anatomy E-Books: 

We know that you already have at least one hefty anatomy text book in your possession. 

We suggest you get another in an e-format. There are a lot of anatomy e-books out there. 

The great thing about these anatomy e-books is that they can be added to many different hand held devices like Kindles or smart phones. 

This means you will have a full anatomy text book with you at all times and in all places. This gives you the chance to study wherever you are- the grocery store line, a doctor’s waiting room, the bus, the cafeteria, wherever! Make the most of your study time by getting a good anatomy e-book.

Websites: 

Anatomy websites are getting more interactive and high tech every year. That is a huge benefit to you. Anatomy websites are one of the best anatomy study resources out there.

Tape Recorder: 

This is an oldie- but a goodie! Get a tape recorder to record your anatomy seminars and lectures. That way you can re-listen to all the parts you didn’t understand the first time around, and can have a more comprehensive idea of what happened in class. 

Many phones come equipped with tape or video recorders these days, making this a very easy anatomy study resource to use.

Study Group: 

Some anatomy classes will assign study groups. If they did not, or if your assigned study group is not working for you, then take our advice and create a study group of your own full of people who make learning the mountain of anatomy information easier. 

You the old phrase that two heads are better than one? Apply that to your anatomy studies as well.

Study Guides: 

Most professors will give you a study guide to go along with their anatomy course. Sometimes these study guides are amazing, but sometimes they are not. 

If you have not been equipped with a high quality study guide, then there are many you can find online or for purchase. You could even talk to some upperclassmen who have taken and passed your course and see if they are willing to help you create a study guide to make your life in anatomy more successful.

Anatomy Tutors: 

If all else fails, hire a tutor. If you see that all your efforts to pass anatomy are not working, set your pride aside and get someone who can help you make heads and tails of the difficult subject of anatomy. Some colleges even staff their programs with tutors that you can take advantage of for little or no cost. 

They are there for a reason, and we promise a few sessions with a tutor will be better for you than repeating the same class.

Study Games: 

If studying is not getting you anywhere because your attention span leaves much to be desired, then try stimulating your senses while still learning by using some study games. 

Many of the anatomy websites out there have games you can use. You could also create your own matching games or trivia games to use in a good study group session.

 

This anatomy study resource may not be the most productive, but it can definitely make your study time a little less mundane. Any extra fun or motivation is worth its weight in gold if it helps you find enjoyment and success in your anatomy classes.
